CHARITY AND LIFE: MY BIG CHOP FOR PANTENE BEAUTIFUL LENGTHS

Happy, Happy Monday, Everyone!

I have been a busy bee traveling, working and just catching up on life, so, I apologize for my absence on my blog, but have enjoyed keeping up with everyone via Instagram!
(logo via Pantene)

It had been on my list of wants in life to donate my hair to those with cancer, and last week, I made the chop! Yay! :)

I donated 9" to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, a wonderful charity organization that makes wigs, from 8" or more of hair, for women with cancer and it felt fantastic! I even felt a little extra pep I my step knowing I was helping someone else!

Recently, Minette from Learn With Minette, and a wonderful friend of mine from blogland, donated her hair to the same charity, and her new, shorter hairstyle looks adorable on her!

If any of you are interested in doing the same, HERE is how you can help! Once your hair is long enough, it really is as easy as 1, 2, 3, but makes a huge difference to someone, and that is for me what life is all about!

I'll be back on Wednesday with pictures from my apple picking adventure, including a look of the day and my fun new ring from Chicnova!

CHARITY: OPERATION SMILE

Happy Friday, Blogland!

From time to time, I like to cover charities I work with, donate to or think are a great cause because I truly believe that helping others whenever possible is so important!

I volunteered throughout high school at a place called Paige Whitney Babies Center, and really find pure joy in helping others...in a way, it helps me at the same time in a different way! :)

I'm sure many of you have heard of Operation Smile, an international children's medical charity that heals children's smiles. Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft, often leaving them unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. And in many cases, their parents can't afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a normal life.

As many of you know smiling is something I can't imagine my life without, and is something I wear daily! Merely thinking about children out there who can't smile, which many of us take for granted and don't even think about, saddens me, so, I'd love to be able to help!

Since many of my readers are of college age, I wanted to let you know that by simply renting any of your textbooks from Campus Book Rentals, you will not only get a great deal on books you need for classes, but be helping out a great cause too, which is a win, win in my eyes! :)

They have textbooks for a wide variety of subjects and majors, no matter what you may be studying!

As some of you know, I got my BFA degree in Theatre, and The Oxford Illustrated History of Theatre was one of the books we had to read, which they carry on their site at a cheaper price now than it was when I had to purchase it, and that was years ago! ;) I still have my copy!

As always, whenever I talk about a charity, I donate or have donated to that particular charity to help in any small way I can. Love that this one is all about my favorite accessory...a smile! :)

This evening, I'm off to dinner with the "Citizen Dames" and to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which no matter what, should have fantastic acting!

It stars Judy Dench and Tom Wilkinson and the oh so funny Maggie Smiths, whom I adore!!! :) Some of you will recognize her form the wonderful PBS series "Downton Abbey!" Love that series!

Have a Wonderful Weekend, and I'll be back tomorrow with lots more fun quotes!

CHARITY: WATER WITH ARTIST BROOKE FRASER

I recently discovered talented New Zealand artist Brooke Fraser, and within weeks was attending her show in LA during her tour stop at the El Rey Theatre this past Thursday night.

I went with my lovely friend Tara who became familiar with her after I posted one of her songs on her facebook page, and said we just had to go see her perform upon realizing she would be in our neck of the woods!

I was first introduced to her music after seeing the video for her song "Shadowfeet" on a blog I came across, which led me to look her up and check out more of her music. I quickly fell in love with her catchy and beautiful song titled "Something In The Water" as seen below.

"Something In The Water" - Brooke Fraser

Upon listening to that song, and some of her other music, I knew that I liked her sound and really enjoyed her deeper lyrics, something that I have always enjoyed about songs.

However, it wasn't until after I saw her perform live, especially the song "Flags," that I become a true fan of not only her music, but her as an artist and person. She appears so genuine and unaffected by the industry, which, being an actor myself, is so, so refreshing!

She has already accomplished so much at the young age of 26, and by just listening to her music lyrics she really has a "very deep well," as my friend phrased it, to pull from, and is doing so much with all that is coming her way to help others, which is what impresses me most.

What inspired this post on my blog was her was when she took some time at her show to talk about her 27th Birthday in a couple weeks, and what it is she wants this year.

What she wants is simple...

It is $27 for each year she has been alive, or whatever you can give, be it a $1, $27 or more, to help raise $50,000 to build and bring wells and bathrooms to schools and communities in developing nations. 100% of what you donate will go directly to these projects!

She will then be going to these areas to help see this through, as well as document and provide pictures and a video, which will scroll each and every name of the person who donates, of every step of the project so each person who donates can see their hard earned money put to good use.

I will be the first to admit that I have taken for granted the fact that I live in a place where clean water flows free and abundantly. It wasn't until the whole "Going Green" thing began that I really stopped and thought about how I could conserve water. Water that at times I just let run while I was off doing something else, which I am not proud of.

So, I have decided that I want to help Brooke reach her $50,000 birthday wish goal, especially since this is the time of year for giving, and I truly believe that she will not only reach it, but could quite possibly exceed it with just a little help from people like you and me!

I have personally donated $27, the amount she wished at her show for us to give if able, and plan to donate more, and even help out, just as soon as I can.

However, I don't want to just give money and run, I want to continue to help if I can, and for me one way was to spread the word by not only introducing you to a wonderful artist, but by giving you an opportunity to help out as well.

If you do choose to donate...

Please leave me a comment below or e-mail me to let me know you have, even if it is $1 because I know we are all tighter on money these days, but every penny does count and help, so, it is greatly appreciated no matter the total value! :)

I would really love to see how much my Fabulous Followers and blog readers can help Brooke reach her goal, and just how much we might be able to help provide clean water to those in need, which is something each of us deserves!

Thank you, thank you, thank you in advance for even just simply reading this blog.

Now, I know we are not all in a place to be able to donate, but just posting this link and/or the button above, as well as even simply doing your part to conserve the water we do have while realizing that we are lucky to have it is a step in the right direction!

Sending lots of smiles your way, and looking forward to seeing how we can all help out! Yippeee!!!
