LINK UP: WHATEVER WEDNESDAY - MY OBITUARY...WAIT, WHAT?!?

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

OK, so, as many of you know, Wednesdays are all about "whatever," hence Whatever Wednesdays, and a different top, on just about anything, is created by someone each week, sent out on Monday and we write and post about it on Wednesday.

This week, the topic gave me a bit of that "Oh, my" feeling with a side of anxiety, not going to lie.  It kind of, sort of, really troubled me, but you know what?  I truly enjoy being a part of these link-ups, and I say, let's go for it, and I went ALL out...even looking up obituaries to figure out what you put in them!

Plus, it is a fun way to get to look back on your life and realize all you have done, but also be reminded me that life is short, so, I had best get to doing all the other things I hope to as well...since I lucky that this was only a mock obituary!

Are you ready?  I'm not sure I am, but this week's topic is to write...

  M Y   O B I T U A R Y

Liesl Kyle Ehardt, a SAG-AFTRA actor, best known for her role as Leslie on "American Dreams" (NBC), Lindsay on "Eve" (UPN) and small, but often re-played Emmy-Award winning episode and TV show "Monk" (USA), though her favorite role was always being an Aunt to her three nephews, died today.

Acting was in her blood, literally.  She was a distant cousin of Zita Johann, an established screen and stage actor from the 1930's who starred in "The Mummy" opposite Boris Karloff and on Broadway opposite Clark Gable.  She bared such a striking resemblance to her cousin, especially in her large, dark, almond eyes, that their relation was unquestionable.

It was in Zita Johann's large almond eyes and profile that you could see her relation to Liesl Ehardt.

Liesl revisited Zita's role in "The Mummy" playing Zita as Helen Grosvenor in "Kreating Karloff."  This was always an honor for her since she respected Zita as an actor and felt they held so much in common. Including views on Hollywood and a love for children, especially, working with those who have special needs and were underprivileged.  In 2011, she wrote the Afterward in Zita Johann's autobiography, Guest Parking.

Aside from being an actor, she was a blogger.  Starting  Fabulous Fashions 4 Sensible Style (a life, design and style blog) in 2009, where "'Kindness is always fashionable' and free!" was her very fitting motto.

In addition, she was a graphic/layout/web designer, nanny, music promotor and lover of all things creative.  Enjoyed singing, crafting, photography, affordable fashion, children, rainbows, buffalo and sending cards covered in stickers.

Born in Norwalk, CT, on August 17, 1979, to what she always referred to as "extraordinary parents."  Her mother, former Pan Am Stewardess and teacher at the renowned Berlitz School in Paris, and father, retired President of Exxon (Al Khalij) in the Middle East, instilled good manners, education, respect towards everyone and the belief that she could do anything she set her mind to.

They always supported her dreams and goals, while never comparing her to anyone else, which gave her a very loving and stable foundation.  She always said, "If everyone could have the parents and upbringing that I had, the world would be a much better place."

Early on, she found herself traveling to many exciting places, some of which others only dream.  By the age of 8, she was fortunate to have traveled around the world twice, visited 6 of the 7 continents and 49 of the 50 states. While having resided in England, the U.A.E. and United States, where she took  Arabic and French in school and was exposed to different customs and cultures at a very young age.

Though she considered being an elementary eduction teacher, since children always related to her so well, she obtained a BFA in Acting degree instead, from the University of NC at Greensboro, and participated in NC School of the Arts summer program in Filmaking.

When done with school, she moved to NYC before heading cross-country to LA LA Land, her term for Los Angeles, where she spent almost a decade of her life pursuing acting.

Liesl Ehardt on set and along side actor Jordan Bridges on the feature film "A Good Funeral."

After securing co and guest-staring roles on popular TV shows, recurring roles on soap operas and  parts in feature films, commercials and video games, and testing out hosting in a network development pilot "Clean Your Room," she moved back to NYC, a place she much preferred over LA.

Since a very young age, she was always aware that she had been dealt a very lucky hand in the game of life, which she never took for granted and felt very fortunate to have.  This was why "paying it forward," was so important to her.

She always tried to make time for people, even strangers, felt kindness, humor and patience were some of the most important qualities to possess, and believed so strongly in the power of a smile.  In fact, it was the one thing she said she "could never live without!"

"Sometimes those who deserve your kindness and patience the least are the ones who need it the most" was something she always said and stood by.  Actively trying to stay positive and see the best in everyone and every situation that crossed her path, sometimes to a fault, and even when that wasn't easy.

Since she was little, and after a family trip to Kenya, she always hoped to one day volunteer in Africa helping children.  So much so, that while growing up, until she could make it happen, she chose to sponsor a young girl from South Africa by sending her allowance and writing letters to to her each month through a special foundation.

She had a passion for teaching and working with children, and her lifelong dream was to open, and be an active part of, her very own children's charity foundation, and hoped that being an actor might give her the platform she needed to do so.

Liesl Ehardt mentoring students and kids, which was always a true passion of hers.

However, her years in Hollywood left her unfulfilled, and  feeling as though it wasn't doing anything to benefit others, being mostly a surface, superficial and sometimes selfish industry, that she took a break from it all, moving acting to the back burner.

While seeking a new direction, and trying to gain back what a bit of what she lost while in LA, she stayed true to an element of her dream, and began volunteering at an arts foundation in the Bronx, Queens, Harlem and Brooklyn.  This is where she got to put her creative background to better use through a mentor program with abused and underprivileged children who in turn inspired her.

She would want to be remembered not by what she did and accomplished in life, but rather by her smile and what she did to try and make other's lives just a little easier and brighter.

Everything she did was in hopes of making even the smallest bit of difference in someone's life and the world.  Ultimately, putting a smile on someone else's face is what put a smile on hers.

LINK-UP: WHATEVER WEDNESDAY - TOP 5 FAVORITE TV SHOWS

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

It is time for another installment of Whatever Wednesdays with Shay and Alissa, this week's topic is TV related, and we need to name our 5 favorite TV shows, some of which I realize a few of my readers were too young to have probably seen! ;)

Truth be told, I am not a big TV watcher, which I realize seems odd to many since I was an actor for years, but with so many channels and shows, and so much going on in life, it is hard to keep up with it.

Actually, since moving to NYC I opted not to get a TV or pay for cable, I watch and can view everything I want online via my laptop, so, there really isn't a need to have a TV, and since doing so, I strangely watch more TV than I did before! :)

(In order of their TV airing dates.)

1. My So-Called Life

(ABC 1994-1995)

Not only did this show get taken off the air before being given a chance, I was one of the many who wrote ABC trying to save it, but it took place in high school, while I was in high school, and so, the experiences were relevant to me.

Fun Side Trivia: This is also when I wanted to be Claire Danesand temporarily died my hair red, with wash out hair color, like her character Angela on the show.  I was also "in love" with Jordan Catalono, like every other teenage girl at that time.  Today, I am friends with Senta Moses who played Delia Fisher on the show, and yes, she is aware of my love for this show! :)

2. Everwood

(WB 2002-2006)

This may take the cake as my all time favorite show, but it is tough to say for sure.  I just thought the stories were so real, true to life and the acting was fantastic all around!

3. The Bachelor / The Bachelorette

(ABC 2002 - Present)

I've watched faithfully since Season 1, back in 2002 with Alex Michael, and never missed an episode.  Maybe it's my endless hope that everyone who wants to finds love...don't judge! Haha! ;)

4. Girls

(HBO 2012 - Present)

This show keeps things real, like a more relatable "Sex and the City," and is creative, raw and inventive.

5. House of Cards

(Netflix 2013- Present)

Wasn't sure if I would like this, since I've never been that into Kevin Spacey, but it is very well done, inventive and keeps you hanging on at the end of each episode, so, I love that they allow the viewer to watch the whole season in one sitting if they wish by releasing all the episodes at once.

So, reading other's posts on this, I realized I completely forgot "Dawson's Creek," and that would definitely win over "House of Cards," but alas I forgot it, and I was once on it!  Whoops!!! :)

LINK-UP: WHATEVER WEDNESDAY - SOMEONE OR SOMETHING YOU TAKE FOR GRANTED

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

A creative topic was chosen for this week's Whatever Wednesday by Kali, and I must say, I had to sit and think about this one, somewhat like I did for this one.

I truly enjoy being a part of these posts each week with Shay and Alissa, and have found my looking forward to them and finding out the topic each week! :)

Growing up I was fortunate to live near NYC, and my family would go in for adventures, dinners, shows and musicals quite often.

We would always drive in, and upon leaving the city to drive back home, my mother, without fail, would always say, "Please take it in and look at that beautiful skyline."

Being the adolescent and teenager I was at the time, I would often just nonchalantly look out at it, kind of with that yeah, yeah, I've seen it before attitude.

I, like so many, just assumed, which was a mistake and one of many great lessons in life, that the iconic Twin Towers would always be a part of the NYC skyline...that I could always see them, whether I looked at that particular moment or not.

I happened to be living in New York City on 9/11, in the midst of it all.

To this day, when I see the old skyline in pictures, movies, etc., I miss it and feel a moment of sadness.

I can't help but think back to those many times when I was encouraged to look at the skyline, and find myself truly wishing I had taken it in more fully...instead of for granted.

This goes hand in hand with not fully exploring cities and places I have lived, and somewhat taking for granted what each has to offer while I'm there because I just figure I can do it later.

It really is important to be a tourist in your own city, especially, when you live somewhere so many dream to one day visit.

I'm so lucky to live in New York City, once again, and before too long, I plan on doing those things I didn't the last time I lived here.

Like going up to the top of the Empire State Building...I pass it all the time, but it has kind of just become another building in the city, as so many do when you live in them.

Ultimately, I have taken historic skylines and structures for granted...something I plan on changing moving forward.

LINK UP: WHATEVER WEDNESDAYS - I SPEND TOO MUCH TIME . . .

Happy Wednesday, Bloglanders!

This week the topic is lighter than last week's, but another great one, which allowed me to remember some moments from my past, which also age me, but we won't tell! ;)

I hope you are all enjoying your week so far!  If you want to join in on Whatever Wednesdays with Shay & Alissa and crew, just e-mail them to get linked up!

I SPEND TOO MUCH TIME . . . ON THE INTERNET

(image)

This is a very true statement.  Though not one of which I should probably be too proud...shhh! ;)

The Internet, or Interweb, as I like to refer to it for fun, has truly changed our society, some for the good, but some for, without a doubt, the bad, too.

This is going to age me a bit, but when I was in high school, I didn't have e-mail, and when I started college we had to dial up to use the Internet via a splitter on the phone line!

Any of you remember this familiar sound, similar to alien communication, when trying to connect?  I realize many of my readers are younger, but this was what we listened to simply trying to connect, often followed by a busy signal.

In fact, CompuServe made fun of AOL's busy signal in their super simple, but effective, 1998 Superbowl commercial, which I remember vividly! Haha!

I don't know what it is about the Internet, but it seems to suck you in, and next thing you know, hours of your life have vanished...POOF!

Between Blogging, Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook, etc. there is endless entertainment, and yes, moms and dads, sometimes even learning, on a variety of topics, to be had.

Though why is it that you can sit down to watch or search for a YouTube video before bed, and then, somehow you've linked to another, another and yet, another, and next thing you know, the sun is rising! Oh my!

Truth is, a lot of what I do, work wise, requires the Internet, also allowing me to do it from anywhere, one of the wonders of the invention, thank you, Tim Berners-Lee!

Plus, I don't have a TV or cable, so, I use the Internet to watch TV shows I enjoy and movies, which is definitely perk, love it!

Speaking of perks...the Internet connects me with so many of you, now friends, in blogland, and that is one thing I would never change, it has been wonderful! :)

However, it is kind of sad that when the Internet is down, I sometimes don't know what to do with myself, which is so silly since I grew up without it.  I'm not old enough to have forgotten...yet!

Is it just me, or do some of you feel like the Internet is a part of you, so, without it, you sometimes feel a part of you is missing?!?  Kind of R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S, but true! :)

So, kiddies, now you know, if you can't seem to find me...simply locate the nearest computer! ;)

LINK UP: WHATEVER WEDNESDAYS - FIRST KISS

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

I would like to thank Shay and Alissa for getting me on board Whatever Wednesdays, so fun!

It premiered last Wednesday, where I wrote about my first time on a TV/Film set.

What a successful premiere it had, thank you all for such wonderful comments and feedback!

It seems the firsts theme continues, and the topic this week is...

My First Kiss

This would take me back to age 14, I believe, which was ___ years ago.

...and yes, I was a wee bit older than most, I suppose.

His name was Jeff, and he doesn't even know he was, nor were we dating.

I know, I know, how very scandalous of me!  LOL!

Actually, not really. It is because my first kiss was on stage, so, it was all part of the job kiddies!

It was during a production of a mystery play titled, "Done to Death."

Something I've always wondered is...
Does a stage kiss even count as a real first kiss?

Well, it was my first, so, I say, for the purpose of this post, yes.

As for my real, non-stage, first kiss...
Well, let's just say he knows who he is, and yes, we were dating at the time and are still great friends today! :)

F I R S T S

First time acting on a TV/Film set...

Summer of 1998 in Wilmington, NC.

Playing the role of Cylla in the CBS TV-Movie titled "Holy Joe."

Starring: John Ritter, Meredith Baxter, JoAnna Garcia & David Tom

I played the girlfriend of David Tom's character David Cass.

I received the role after Mark Fincannon, the casting director from Fincannon & Asscoiates, picked me out of the crowd to do a cold read from a "Dawson's Creek" script, during a workshop he was holding for all theatre students at UNCG.

Thanks to Mr. Fincannon this role earned me my SAG (Screen Actors Guild) card, which is what every actor works towards. I realize mine was gained far too easily, I still have friends who have been trying to get one for over 10 years, and I was very fortunate.

I moved to Wilmington, NC for the summer to film, and everyone on the set welcomed me with open arms.

The pants they put me in were far too small for me...hehe...but the Emmy Award winning costume designer, Peggy Farrell, showed me a trick, lie flat on your back and zip up tight jeans, it worked!  Ha!

Sat and talked with John Ritter in between takes, and he was so warm to me on set, sharing stories from his family and times with his sons, Tyler and Jason, growing up, he was such a proud dad, so, hearing he had died suddenly in 2003 was quite sad.

The little sister of the young girl in the movie took to me, so, we were buddies, and she drew me lots of pictures to take home.

It was Mr. Ritter who stopped the action on set the moment I wrapped, and was done filming, to say, "thank you," and told everyone to "give me a round of applause for a job well done," which I have never forgotten.

It was my 1st TV/Film experience, and to this day one of my best.

Fun Fact: Ran into David Tom at the "Rock of Ages" auditions in LA, over a decade later, and he came out to my annual holiday party that year.

At my 2009 holiday party in LA with David Tom, over 10 years after filming "Holy Joe" together.
