GET CRAFTY: TURN PACKAGING INTO A DECORATIVE VINTAGE PARIS BOX FOR UNDER $5

Happy Monday, Lovelies!

I'm here with a Get Crafty, what I call DIY projects, post after being challenged by my younger sister, oh yes, indeedy!

She purchased a flat iron from TJ Maxx over the holidays, and thought the magnetic box it was packaged in could be turned into something chic and decorative by moi. So, I just had to make this happen, and hopefully she approves! ;)

It really is quite simple, and can be done for about $5, spent on supplies, which allows you to make more than one if you so choose without spending more. Here is how I did it, step by step...
Vintage Paris Box Get Crafty DIY by Liesl Ehardt

1. Satin Carmel Latte Spray Paint
I purchased mine at Michael's using their 40% off coupon making it about $2.50

2. Eiffel Tower Sticker or Image
I got mine at Michael's during their sticker sale made by Recollections for $1.50

3. Old Product Packaging or Box
I used the box my sister's Cortex mini flat iron was in from TJ Maxx making it free

4. Tissue Paper / Decorative Paper / Scissors
I used a sheet of cream tissue paper with script on it that a gift was wrapped in making it free, but use any light colored tissue paper / I used a sheet of Creative Imaginations scrapbooking paper called cream scroll (#17603) from Michael's for 50 cents / Any pair of scissors or a paper cutter
1. Get one sheet of the tissue paper laid out flat and ready.

2. Ater spaying a thin layer of the spray paint, lay one piece of tissue paper down on top.

3. Press the tissue paper down on top of the thin spray paint layer while still wet.

4. Rub your fingers back and forth across the surface to smooth and allow the color to blend with the tissue paper, then, cut off extra tissue paper off edges.

5. Spray another thicker layer of the spray paint on top of smoothed and attached tissue paper and let dry.

6. Spray a thick coat of the spray paint on the interior of your box, no need to add the tissue paper, and let dry.

1. Peel off the Eiffel Tower sticker.

2. Center Eiffel Tower sticker on the box once dry.

3. Measure interior of your box.

4. Draw out measurements on scripted scrapbook paper.

5. Completely cut out around the measurement lines.

6. Place paper cutout into bottom of the box when dry to create a fun lining.

In the daytime using the instagram walden filter.

In the evening in a lovely candlelight glow.

Just my Vintage Paris Box et Moi..."ooh la la!" :)

♦ Get a clear sealant spray and coat the entire box to help protect it.

♦ You can glue the inside liner down or leave it unattached to give you the option of switching it out with different prints/patterns should the mood strike.

♦ Feel free to use your own creativity when designing your box by using different colors or a different main image...the options are endless!

♦ This technique could be used on a canvas or piece of cardboard to create art to hang or display as well.

Have FUN if you give this a try, and please let me know if you do by sharing a link to it via the comments below so everyone can see your creations! Yay!

Thank you for all of the continued support, and let me know if you would like to see more projects like this in the future, or if you have an idea with which you need help! I have some other fun and useful ideas in the works! :)

GET CRAFTY: DIY CLUTCH ORGANIZER UPDATE + MORE LID RACK IDEAS & GIVEAWAY

Happy Monday, Everyone!

Three years ago, while getting settled into my New York City apartment, I had an idea while in the kitchen isle at Target.
This idea turned into a simple Get Crafty DIY post here on my blog.

See original post here  GET CRAFTY: DIY CLUTCH ORGANIZER USING KITCHEN LID RACK

Since then, my post has gone viral with over 100,000 pins and shares combined, been published in a magazine, featured on Buzzfeed, Yahoo, MSN Lifestyle, Good Housekeeping, Apartment Therapy and in countless blogs.  Say what?!?

I had no idea this was an undiscovered way to store clutches, I was just tired of mine falling over! :)

So, this got me thinking that there must be additional uses for it.  I was inspired to revisit the post that put my little blog on the map, so to speak, and see what my brain could create.

Below, I'm sharing more simple uses I came up with for the very same Lid Rack.  Target still sells it, the only difference is that the price went up $1.  Hopefully, they each offer some more useful ideas.

Enjoy, and thank you to everyone who has supported my blog over the years.  As well as to those of you who liked my idea, shared it and helped to spread the love, I am so very grateful to you

GET CRAFTY: DIY COFFFE AND BAR CART FOR $35

Happy, Happy Monday, Blogland!!!

It's time for another Get Crafty DIY project!  Yay!!!

As many of you know, I recently moved into my NYC apartment, but what you might not know, is that I have also been admiring many bar carts seen on Pinterest and on other lovely blogs!

For Christmas, I got the Keurig coffee maker and a bunch of K-cups from my parents, so, I decided I wanted to create a coffee and bar cart and make my own little corner of just that for an affordable price!

When I stumbled upon the BYGEL Utility Cart at IKEA for only $29.99, I had a vision, and the rest, as they say, is history!  So, I was able to create my own coffee and bar cart for only $35!  Happy, happy Liesl! :)

After finding some Chevron Shelf Liner in gray, to match the theme of my new place, all that was left to do was to Get Crafty!!!  Here we go...

(Project, layout and design created by Liesl Ehardt)

GET CRAFTY: PERSONALIZE FRAMES

I am back with another Get Crafty post that shows you how I recently altered an affordable frame I purchased for a friend and turned it into a special 30th Birthday gift for her.

Turning 30 is a pretty big birthday, and I wanted something to represent it, but couldn't really find anything. Then, after finding a fun red frame, I decided I wanted personalize it by adding the number 30 to it for one of her gifts.

However, after some visits to Michaels and other crafting stores, I realized that they sell numerous letters as stickers or stencil cut outs, but not numbers, which I still think is a wee bit odd!

Anwho, I thought, why don't I make it myself? Which is when this get crafty idea was born! :)

First, I picked out a frame that I thought my friend would like and in a color I knew would match her apartment. You can make this as affordable as you want depending on how much you spend on the frame itself. They can be purchased for about as little as $4.99 at TJ Maxx, Marshall's or a Home Goods type discount store.

Then, I tried out a couple different fonts I liked and typed a big 30 in the size that would fit nicely on the frame and printed some options out on regular paper, although you can use sticker paper too!

Next, you will need some glitter and glue. I used a black glitter glue, which I already had, since black helps camouflage imperfections and I was going to add silver glitter to it and the glitter in the glue would be fine and just add to the sparkle.

Once you have filled in your print out evenly with the glue, using a toothpick or x-acto knife/razor with a flat edge to reshape glue and clean up any edges if you need to, sprinkle the glitter of choice on top.

Let it dry completely, or even overnight to be safe, then take an x-acto knife or razor and trace along the outside of the number to cut it out.

Remember to place a thick piece of cardboard or a cutting board underneath to be sure not to scratch the surface under it because you will be cutting completely through the paper.

Once completely cut out, clean up edges using little scissors if you need to, position the number where you want it on the frame, glue the it in place and let dry. You can also use Glue Dots that they sell in crafting stores to tack it down, but allow it to be removed or repositioned if you ever want to.

Ta da! You now have a personalized, super affordable gift (or little treasure for yourself) that is unique, and makes it a little more thoughtful than just a frame. Even though I welcome frames as a gift any day...love them! :)

Let me know if you try this yourself or if you have any other fun, personalized crafting ideas to share!

Also, if there is something you are trying to do for an affordable price and aren't sure how to do it, let me know...maybe I can help you find a way!

Side Note: My extraordinary parents got into town yesterday and I couldn't be happier!!! :)
