LIFE: THE 12TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11 - A SIMPLE REFLECTION

Freedom Tower, NYC - September 11, 2013

Side Note: Only after I took this picture, did I notice a bird had flown gracefully into view.

Each year, on this date, I can't help, but reflect.  However, I'll keep the post this year simple.

As some of you know, in September of 2001, I had just moved to NYC for the first time, unaware that the world would be changed forever, just 11 short days later.

12 years later, I am living in NYC, once again, right where the Twin Towers used to stand.  I still miss them, but am proud to see NYC standing tall on the anniversary of a day we will never forget.

There have been a few instances in my life, which have reminded me that life can be taken from you in a moment, and this was one of them.

It is so important to appreciate today, and let those you care about know that you care about them.

I think the impressionable moments in my life, where the life of someone I cared about was almost taken away, have made me tend to say too much, too soon, and express my feelings a little deeper than some feel comfortable hearing, especially, those newly entering my life.

I only realized this about myself in recent weeks.  However, it is a part of who I am, and I think all any of us can do is be ourselves.   Being open, honest and vulnerable, is the only way to truly let others into your life.  Those meant to be in it will stay, and the others will keep walking.

The things we go through in our life, like the events of 9/11, shape us. Hopefully, we can learn, grow and move forward a little stronger than we were before.

That said, it doesn't erase the past, and the older we get, the more of these moments we collect, each reminding us that we are alive.

In the end, this is what life is all about. So, live it, enjoy it and be the best version of you possible!

  2. I was in New York just before the attacks, and I was completely heartbroken when I happened. Not a year goes by that I don't feel the despair of that day. Thanks for posting this beautiful photo...I can't wait to visit the new memorial as soon as I can.

  3. Beautiful post. I've been thinking a lot about love and loss lately... And how you need to appreciate every moment because it can be gone in a flash. What a capture with the bird in frame too!
