I recently discovered talented New Zealand artist Brooke Fraser, and within weeks was attending her show in LA during her tour stop at the El Rey Theatre this past Thursday night.
I went with my lovely friend Tara who became familiar with her after I posted one of her songs on her facebook page, and said we just had to go see her perform upon realizing she would be in our neck of the woods!
I was first introduced to her music after seeing the video for her song "Shadowfeet" on a blog I came across, which led me to look her up and check out more of her music. I quickly fell in love with her catchy and beautiful song titled "Something In The Water" as seen below.
"Something In The Water" - Brooke Fraser
Upon listening to that song, and some of her other music, I knew that I liked her sound and really enjoyed her deeper lyrics, something that I have always enjoyed about songs.
However, it wasn't until after I saw her perform live, especially the song "Flags,"that I become a true fan of not only her music, but her as an artist and person. She appears so genuine and unaffected by the industry, which, being an actor myself, is so, so refreshing!
She has already accomplished so much at the young age of 26, and by just listening to her music lyrics she really has a "very deep well," as my friend phrased it, to pull from, and is doing so much with all that is coming her way to help others, which is what impresses me most.
What inspired this post on my blog was her was when she took some time at her show to talk about her 27th Birthday in a couple weeks, and what it is she wants this year.
What she wants is simple...
It is $27 for each year she has been alive, or whatever you can give, be it a $1, $27 or more, to help raise $50,000 to build and bring wells and bathrooms to schools and communities in developing nations. 100% of what you donate will go directly to these projects!
She will then begoing to these areas to help see this through, as well as document and provide pictures and a video, which will scroll each and every name of the person who donates, of every step of the project so each person who donates can see their hard earned money put to good use.
I will be the first to admit that I have taken for granted the fact that I live in a place where clean water flows free and abundantly. It wasn't until the whole "Going Green" thing began that I really stopped and thought about how I could conserve water. Water that at times I just let run while I was off doing something else, which I amnot proud of.
So, I have decided that I want to help Brooke reach her $50,000 birthday wish goal, especially since this is the time of year for giving, and I truly believe that she will not only reach it, but could quite possibly exceed it with just a little help from people like you and me!
I have personally donated $27, the amountshe wished at her show for us to give if able, and plan to donate more, and even help out, just as soon as I can.
However, I don't want to just give money and run, I want to continue to help if I can, and for me one way was to spread the word by not only introducing you to a wonderful artist, but by giving you an opportunity to help out as well.
Re-Post This Blog post or a link to it on your blog.
Post The Charity: Water Button I created on your page with a link to spread the word.
If you do choose to donate...
Please leave me a comment below ore-mail meto let me know you have, even if it is $1 because I know we are all tighter on money these days, but every penny does count and help, so, it is greatly appreciated no matter the total value! :)
I would really love to see how much my Fabulous Followers and blog readers can help Brooke reach her goal, and just how much we might be able to help provide clean water to those in need, which is something each of us deserves!
Thank you, thank you, thank you in advance for even just simply reading this blog.
Now, I know we are not all in a place to be able to donate, but just posting this link and/or the button above, as well as even simply doing your part to conserve the water we do have while realizing that we are lucky to have it is a step in the right direction!
Sending lots of smiles your way, and looking forward to seeing how we can all help out! Yippeee!!!

over the years, it has evolved into a DIY, design, travel and lifestyle blog as well. after moving back to my beloved new york city, it helped to inspire my sensible style line & etsy shop.
